Who we are

This policy covers cookingcalculator.app ("CookingCalculator", "we", "us"). It explains what information the site collects, what our third-party advertising partner collects, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected] and we will explain it.

What the calculators collect: nothing

Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The ingredient amounts, recipes and pan sizes you type are never transmitted to us, never written to a database and never stored after you close the tab. There is no account system and nothing to sign up for.

Pages are pre-rendered static files. Requesting one does not create a profile of you on our side.

What we collect when you contact us

If you use the feedback form or the contact page, we receive only what you type into it:

• Message — required, because there is nothing to read otherwise.
• Name and email address — both optional. We use your email address for one purpose only: replying to you. We do not add it to a mailing list, and we do not share or sell it.

Submissions arrive as ordinary email in our inbox and are kept only as long as they are useful for acting on your message. To have a submission deleted, email [email protected] from the address you used.

The form is rate-limited to block automated abuse. This check happens in memory during the request and is not stored.

Advertising and cookies

We use Google AdSense to display advertising on this site. Advertising is what keeps the calculators free to use.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. This includes Google's advertising cookie (the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers), which enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. In practice this means Google may track aspects of your browsing behaviour across websites in order to choose which advertisements to show you, to measure how those advertisements perform, and to limit how many times you see the same ad.

Third-party vendors and ad networks used by Google may also place cookies or read existing ones. These cookies are set by those companies, not by us — we cannot read them and we do not receive the browsing data they collect. What we receive from Google is aggregate reporting: how many ads were shown and what revenue they earned. That reporting does not identify individual visitors to us.

How to opt out of personalised advertising

You are not required to accept personalised ads. You have several options:

• Turn off Google personalised ads. Visit Google My Ad Center (previously Ads Settings) and switch off personalised advertising. Google will still show ads, but they will not be based on your browsing history.
• Opt out across many ad networks at once. Use aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
• Block or delete cookies in your browser. Every major browser lets you block third-party cookies entirely or clear the ones already stored. The calculators on this site will keep working normally with cookies blocked.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent notice is presented before personalised advertising cookies are used, as required by law, and you can decline or change your choice at any time.

Where our conversion data comes from

The density figures behind every conversion on this site are published, not invented. Each ingredient carries a source and the standard measuring convention it assumes — for example that flour is spooned into the cup and levelled rather than scooped and packed.

Our figures are compiled from published reference data: FAO/INFOODS density tables, NIST Handbook 133, USDA FoodData Central and standard metric kitchen charts. Where reputable sources disagree — and for flour they routinely do — we say so rather than presenting one number as definitive.

The complete list, with the density used for every ingredient and where that figure came from, is on our data sources page. This data is reference information about ingredients; it contains nothing about you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which calculators people use and which pages need improving. It sets cookies in your browser and reports aggregate usage — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type — to Google. We use this only in aggregate: we never attempt to identify individual visitors, and the figures you enter into the calculators are never sent to Google, because every calculation happens in your browser.

You can opt out for every site you visit by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser settings. The calculators work exactly the same either way.

We also use Vercel Analytics, which measures page performance without cookies, and our hosting provider processes standard server request logs to deliver and secure the site.

Children

This site is a general-audience cooking reference and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Because we hold no account data, in most cases there is simply nothing of yours for us to hand over or erase. Where we do hold something — an email you sent us — you can ask us to provide a copy or delete it by writing to [email protected].

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state privacy laws such as the CCPA, including the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. The opt-out links in the advertising section above are the practical way to exercise that right for the ads shown here. We do not sell personal information for money.

Links to other sites

Where we cite a source or link to a recipe, that site has its own privacy policy which we do not control. Advertisements shown on this site also lead to third-party destinations.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data — for example by adding a new third-party tool — we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
